Do It For David 2017

“Do it for David” is a CrossFit event in honor of David G-W. The 3rd annual “Do it for David” will take place on April 23, 2017. David is now a 5 year old boy that was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in 2014. The typical progression of DMD is a loss of ambulation anywhere between ages 7 and 15 requiring use of an electric wheelchair, night time respiratory support in the teens with slow loss of upper extremity function, and early death due to cardiac or respiratory failure in the 20s or 30s despite 24 hr respiratory support and cardiac drugs. "Do it for David" began in 2014 at Mt. Sinai CrossFit on Long Island, New York, in which we raised $6,500 in charitable donations with the support of our CrossFit community. The event included 12 teams (48 participates) along with 30 volunteers. It was run as a 3 WOD CrossFit competition with event winners as well as fundraising prizes and raffle baskets. The event was AMAZING! In 2015, the event increased in size with 60 participants and 40 volunteers. Again, there were 3 team WODs as well as some individual “fun events” for participants to enjoy. We proudly raised $11,500. This year we are hoping to raise $15,000 for this cause that remains near and dear to our CrossFit community. All of the monies raised will be donated directly to "Cure Duchenne," a 501c3 charitable organization, in honor of David with the hopes of making advances in treatments for young men like David. Despite the overwhelming success of the first and second annual "Do it for David,” much more is needed. We are looking for donations of money, gear, raffle baskets, bars, samples, gift cards, or anything else that you might be able to donate to make this event HUGE! Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to working together to make a difference.
